Simply Soft Stripes

These were some birthday gifts for friends. One’s favorite color is green, and the other — purple of course. Caron Simply Soft yarn really worked with this project and they turned out great. I think I may try this in a couple other color themes.

It’s Me – In Crochet

Here I am in all my Crochet glory! This was from the final blanket so you can see how I did the border. I don’t have permission to show everyone else’s photos so unfortunately I can’t show off the whole blanket. It turned out great though. Everyone looks good. I am happy it is finished though. lol

Where have I been?

Whew, it has been a while. I have been crocheting a lot but not updating my blog much lately. I had a little fall and messed up my foot and knee pretty badly and lately have had a fever and other aches and pains. BUT – I have gotten everything done that I needed to!

My Mom’s Family portrait afghan is done and she got it for her birthday. She, of course, loved it. I will post a picture of my portrait soon. I also got both scarves done for a couple friends’ birthdays that are coming up. AND I finished my project I have been working on for the “Hubby Swap”… I had to do a little inventing for that one so I hope the receiver likes it!

I will get pictures of everything up intermittently throughout the next couple of weeks. Before I start my next project, (Which I am not even sure what it is going to be yet) I really need to clean up the apartment and get things organized. Plus, I need to start studying for the MPRE which is Nov. 4. So much is going on right now, it’s pretty crazy.

The Scarf Swap is Complete!

Crochetprincess66 sent me these two beautiful scarves for the winter scarf swap at Crochetville. Plus some Breast Cancer Awareness socks and a pin. You can’t really tell but the flower and border on the gray scarf are very sparkly. It is very very pretty! The blue scarf is super soft and light so that will be good for the Florida weather and not just the really chilly days. I can’t say thank you enough to Kim — she did a great job!!

Whew… made it to Canada

Well my Canadian swap partner got her scarf and hat. I am so glad because I was getting worried.

I made her a scarf and matching hat, both of which were made with homespun.

I am going to make it!!

Well I finished the 3rd portrait, my sister. I did it all (including the border) in one weekend! Plus I have the border in the other 2 portraits I had already finished. So now I need to finish one last portrait, sew everything together, and put a border on the whole thing. I will have plenty of time to get most of that done this coming weekend. So this will be done for my Mom’s birthday and I am happy about that. I can’t believe I am getting this done so quickly… but I am certainly not complaining! :-)

Another Pattern Tetsed

Well I was lucky again. I got to test a pattern this time by hmcquigg from Crochetville.

This time is was a dog sweater. Of course, I don’t have a dog so that only means one thing: It’s time to torture the cat! I made it a little smaller so it would fit him better, and unfortunately I got the strap twisted when I was trying to quickly get him in the thing. But you get the idea. The pattern was really easy to follow, very quick to work up, and easy to change to get the size I wanted.

So here Loki is in his new little camo sweater, complete with hunter orange button.

Update:  People were asking what kind of cat he was, and he is a Bengal.    :-)

Another Portrait Down…

Well, I finished another one. Now I have my Mom’s portrait done in addition to my Step-Dad’s done already. Two down, two to go. I am really really really wanting to get this done for her birthday so I am going to need to get a move on. I HAVE to finish another FULL portrait this weekend if I am going to make it. I have quite a few new movies to watch so I can watch movies and crochet. As long as I stay focused and work really hard on it, I can finish the third portrait this weekend.

The whole afghan will need to be complete and in the mail by October 13th. Which also happens to be Friday the 13th. Won’t that be nice. lol Hopefully, no mishaps will occur.

I can feel the hand cramps and lack of sleep already, but that is how bad I want to finish this in time. I am pretty sure I can do it.

On another note, I went to Wal-mart and I visited the yarn section. Which I shoudln’t have. I can’t believe how much money I spent. But I found some good stuff and almost all of what I got was on sale. The only thing that wasn’t on sale was the Caron Simply Soft. I got 6 skeins, 3 in different shades of green and 3 in different shades of purple. I am working on making some very soft and VERY pretty striped scarves for a couple friends for their birthdays. I started on the purple one already and I am loving it. It is turning out fantastic. Those need to be done by the end of October so I have plenty of time. Plus, scarves don’t take too long.

The Florida Fiber In – What a Disaster

Well I went, I saw, I was unimpressed.

First of all I have to begin with the fact I was very cranky when I got to the even in the first place.  The traffic was terrible because of construction, accidents, and normal tourist stupidity.  So what should have been a 20 to 25 minute drive took over an hour.  I finally made it though, but that really didn’t pick up my mood.

Here is what the Florida Fiber In consisted of.  Maybe 10 vendor booths, a silent auction,  and some women sitting around talking to one another while working on various projects.  Well that was about what I expected it to be anyway so that doesn’t sound too bad.  However, these women came across as the most unfriendly and unwelcoming bunch I have ever seen.  I had money in my purse and I was looking to spend some of it.  I was hoping to get some information on spinning since I want to get into it.  But hardly anyone looked up from their project to even say “hello”.  I don’t know how people expect to sell their goods if they cannot be friendly enough to strike up a conversation.  I walked in, looked around, got pretty much ignored, and left.   All that for about 10 minutes of feeling out of place and like I didn’t belong there. Wow.

So I left, bought some new sunglasses to make myself feel better and went home.  I was a terrible experience and I won’t be doing it again.  An event needs to be created which 1. is much larger, 2. Is a lot more fun,  and 3.  has a welcoming atmosphere.  One day, I would love to coordinate my own event like this one.. because this had potential,  the execution was just all wrong.  I am thinking about emailing the Coordinators and letting them know what I thought of the whole thing,  and also letting them know their website needs to be re-vamped.

Ok my rant is over.  I am seriously just appalled at the whole situation.

On a lighter note, I got some great yarn that was on sale at Wal-Mart.  I spent way too much (of course) but I am happy with it all.  I am working on some great scarves for Birthday presents for a couple friends.  So far they are turning out FANTASTIC.

Who knew swapping would be so fun?

I got my package today from Chelle my fall tote swap partner! It was wonderful! I got a BEAUTIFUL tote, some yarn, tea, socks, frames to decorate, and decorating supplies. To top it all off I got an awesome pumpkin pie candle. It looks like a real pumpkin pie!

Enjoy…. because I am going to!
